Fight fans have made the Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley title bout a total sell-out at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Loretta Lynn postponed her concert at Green Valley Ranch due to recent leg surgery, but there are many other music attractions. Ke$ha makes Animal moves at The Pearl, DJ Tiesto is in concert at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel, David Cassidy is at the Orleans for two nights, Grammy winner Robert Cray is at Red Rock Resort, Billy Ocean is at Cannery, and Papa Roach and Finger Eleven are at Fremont Street.

Laughter galore with comedy ventriloquist Jeff Dunham’s Identity Crisis Tour at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace; Big Al’s Comedy Club opens at the Orleans with America’s Got Talent finalist Grandma Lee headlining through July 2; and Paul Rodriguez is at Star of the Desert Arena at Buffalo Bills in Primm.

Manny Pacquiao, widely considered the world's best pound-for-pound fighter, is defending his WBO welterweight championship against "Sugar" Shane Mosley on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (9 p.m. ET, Showtime PPV, $54.95).
The fight marks Pacquiao's second defense of the 147-pound title he won from Miguel Cotto in 2009. The first came against Josh Clottey in March 2010, after which Pacquiao moved up and beat Antonio Margarito for a vacant super welterweight title last November. That victory made Pacquiao the first boxer to capture world championships in eight different weight classes (from 112 to 154).

Background

When Mosley shocked the heavily favored Antonio Margarito in January 2009, the demand for a Pacquiao-Mosley showdown reached an all-time high. How things have changed. Mosley followed up the Margarito coup with a 15-month layoff, a lopsided loss to Floyd Mayweather and a listless draw with mid-level contender Sergio Mora. Once considered one of boxing's most desirable matchups, Pacquiao-Mosley is now regarded as a mismatch. Yes, the 39-year-old Mosley is a former lightweight, welterweight and junior middleweight champion, but he's nowhere near the fighter who twice upset Oscar De La Hoya in the early 2000s. Most boxing people are asking not if Mosley can win but whether he can survive.
That's less an indictment of "Sugar" Shane -- a first-ballot Hall of Famer who's never been knocked out -- and more a tribute to Pacquiao, the eight-division champion who's become the face of boxing around the world. If he's not unequivocally the sport's greatest fighter (the inactive Mayweather is the other claimant to the mythical pound-for-pound title), then he's certainly the most exciting boxer today. The 32-year-old Pacquiao is a global phenomenon who's cracked the sporting mainstream like no other Asian-born athlete. He's been the subject of a 60 Minutes profile and was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people. He sings, he acts. He was elected to Congress in the Philippines last year and hobnobbed with President Obama in February. It's been more than six years since he lost a fight.

This is a bit of a follow up on an older piece I did in an attempt to show the pay structure in boxing vs. MMA and clear up some misconceptions some fans had about the pay distribution. Dan Rafael of ESPN.com tweeted the purse info for Saturday's main event and undercard bouts for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley event. Here's the info

In one of the biggest fights that we have seen in quite some time, boxing betting fanatics will get their chance to sink their teeth into the bout between “Sugar” Shane Mosley and the “Pac-Man,” Manny Pacquiao.
What we have to remember about this fight is that there are a ton of boxing pundits making Pacquiao picks in this fight, which has pushed the line an incredible ways. Right now at Bookmaker Sportsbook, Pacquiao is a -1000 favorite on the boxing odds, and that might only get higher as the day wears on and there is more and more support coming in for the Philippine. We have to admit that Pacquiao is, of course, the best pound for pound boxer in the world. There is no doubt that he is going to be the heavy favorite due to the fact that he hasn’t lost a fight in six years and that he is 52-3-2 for his career. There is no doubt that he is going to be the stronger boxer in the ring, especially knowing that Mosley is really pushing an age that boxers tend to disappear. Heck, the American has even threatened retirement if he gets beaten badly in this bout, almost insinuating that the possibility is there that he gets the you know what beaten out of him.

However, the sharpest of boxing betting pundits realizes that every boxer has his moment when he just fails in the limelight. We saw Roy Jones Jr. get taken down not once, but twice by Antonio Tarver, a man who really shouldn’t have been standing in the same ring with the man once known as the best pound for pound boxer in the world. We’ve seen all sorts of crazy things in the ring just like this.
Mosley has never been knocked out before in his career, but with 38 knockouts in 52 victories, many think that this is going to be the time that it happens. That’s why the boxing betting line features this fight to be under 11.5 rounds at -200.
However, take a look at the last few fights that Pacquiao has had. Antonio Margarito and Joshua Clottey both made it the distance with the Pac Man, while Miguel Angel Cotto ended up losing via TKO with virtually no time left in the bout.

We’re not saying that Pacquiao is going to be beaten in this match, but we know that the Pacquiao vs. Mosley odds just aren’t on his side. Mosley is a strong fighter that is at the tail end of his career, and he knows that he has to do everything he can to try to wear Pacquiao out to stretch this fight out as long as possible. It’s a heck of a lot easier said than done, but we do think that the end result is going to see this one going the distance. We might be seeing Sugar Shane for the last time, but it won’t be with him lying on his back.

With the ruling, there is no more legal impediment for Solar Entertainment to air the May 8 boxing bout between Pacquiao and challenger Sugar Shane Mosley.

In a decision written by Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes, the CA dismissed the petition filed by Melecio Alonzo Jr. who claimed to be the owner and holder of registered copyright over the “Satellite Cinema Houses Audio-Visual Showing Medium.”

In his company profile, Alonzo described the medium as “an indoor showing concept that is used to broadcast an audiovisual works and cinematographic works produced by a process similar to cinematography or any process for making audio-visual recordings using satellite and projector showing medium.”

Alonzo, sole proprietor and manager of Cluster Marketing engaged in the distribution of cable television equipment and satellite services, asked the SC to reverse a 2009 ruling handed down by the Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) that ordered the cancellation of his copyright over the medium.

Solar Entertainment is a duly-registered corporation that is considered the pioneer of television block-timing in the country, distributor of international films, and operates cable channels.

Solar started utilizing the closed system through which viewers can watch events not shown on local television channels live via satellite and without interruption of commercial establishments. Its practice is to tie up with cinema houses, restaurants, and hotels where popular sports events are exclusively shown to customers for a certain price.
